Me in Toledo

It's been so long.

Since the weather got nice, I try to spend minimal time indoors unless completely neccessary. That is why I have been absent for so long.

Work has been busy, doing a complete re-design of our current website: www.metricmetal.com which is Parker Steel Co. in Toledo, Ohio. It's funny how the site never really bothered me that much until I learned web design. Now, I can't believe we waited so long to do this. The new site should be up in less than 3 months. We are designing it in the background of the current site. The new site will have shipping maps, printable product pages, information (seo)pages, cool little tools like metric conversion calculators, and a sleek new overall look (among other things.)

Also, I created and published my first real website! Check it out at: www.davidandyola.com THis is a site I buiilt for my very good friend, Yola. She is getting married and as my gift to the couple, I designed and printed the invites, and created a wedding website. On the site you can view pictures of the couple, read about their backgrounds, their engagement, "meet" their families, see theur new home, make hotel reservations, get detailed directions to the ceremony, and R.S.V.P. to the event on a form.

To anyone creating a website and needing a hosting company, USE GODADDY.COM. They are the best!!!! Easy to use, super helpful, and 24 hour customer care. I LOVE THEM. Also their prices are great. It only cost a total of $44 for 1 year of hosting, 1 domain name, and plenty of email.

Anyway, Thats what I've been up to, as well as spending quality time at El Camino, for margaritas, going up to the Islands (Kelly's and Put in Bay), riding my bike, and looking for a house to buy!!!! P.S. If you haven't checked out St. Georges Pub on top of Manos downtown, do. I love that place.

Bike to the Bay

O.K. So I just found out about Bike to the Bay ,and I feel this event must have been created just for me. #1 I love to ride my bike, and #2 I love the water, the Lake Erie Islands, and the sun. I just got a new bike in December, and I've been on it nonstop since the weather got nice. Actually I've been riding it so much, I think my boyfriend is starting to get jealous. :)!!.
Anyway...I bought a bike rack off a guy at work yesterday and I even installed a water holder, for when I get all hot and sweaty from riding that big, hard.........bike. So, the point is that I am going to do this bike to the bay business. I am determined to make it all the way there. It's 100 miles and they say it takes 4-8 hours, so i'm sure ill get there around 4 am. The good news is that they have lots of rest stops with treats, and hopefully a slew of professional butt massagers. It ends with a pasta dinner in Sandusky, at which point most of us will head over to Put In Bay to get trashed. The ones without hangovers will likely bike home the next day, where as I will likely be going home in an ambulance either from alchohol poisioniing, or because my butt fell off.
I asked my Dad to sponser me on the ride and asked him if he would do it with me. I actually thiink he might do it. The last time I went biking with my dad I had to ride very far ahead of him for the following reasons. #1 He is slow. #2. He dresses completely inapproriatly. I will now describe my Dad that day.
Imagine Mr. Potato Head with 17 longish hairs blowing in the breeze off the side of his mostly bald head. The shirt; a long sleeve button down dress shirt. parachute pants, loafers with brown socks, and a purple helmet. Need I say more.
I would like to go with some normal, less embarresing people as well, so if you would like to go, PLEASE get a hold of me, so I don't have to explain to every passing rider, that this man is in the race, not just a clown entertaining the weary riders. Here is the info. on the event.

Floating Corpses

I am disturbed to report the latest creepy news of Toledo. If you had not heard, last week two bodies were found within a mile of my house, washed up on the docks downtown. One body was found by some marine operators working on the MLK bridge, and the other by some Central Catholic rowing students. One body had been missing for only a week, and the other was missing since November. Yuck. I seem to be living dead center (no pun intended) in the heart of all kinds of craziness. Last year a body was found downtown too. This winter we had a jumper off the High Level Bridge. The speculation of the most recent deaths are that the cause of death was drowning due to being drug under the current by filled up waders. Apparently fishermen, often trip, or slip on their way out to the middle of the river to fish, then their waders fill up with water, they panic, and forget to unhook their waders, and subsequently drown. Andrew and I went down to the river to check this out for ourselves. We were suprised to see that, yes, indeed, this seems very possible. We saw a lone fisherman, seemingly tring to find a quiter spot away from the flock of 40 or so casters. We watched him make his way through the river, once nearly slipping. He easily could have gone down without anyone noticing. Word to the wise: always fish with a partner, and carry a very sharp knife. For insight on what happens to a body after being immersed in water for a period of time, and other reactions to death see the intriguing book on the subject, Stiff, by Mary Roach

so frustrated

I have never in my life been so frustrated by work. I want to kill the lovely people at Network Solutions. I have now dedicated nearly 2 weeks tring to change our company's domain and hosting from one company to theirs. I feel like I'm going crazy with back and forth emails, calls, faxes and on and on. A word of advise. keep a domain comapny use them for your hosting, and for your domain name purchases, and don't switch. Use only 1 user name and password, and make sure that the contact for the account is YOU and only YOU. If you want any advise on the matter, I will help you, under the condition that you don't ask me for at least a week from today so that I may recover fully.
